⚡ Bolt: [performance improvement] avoid intermediate Buffer allocations in readFileSync#39
Conversation
Passing `'utf8'` as the second argument to `fs.readFileSync(path, 'utf8')` reads the file directly into a string, bypassing the intermediate standalone `Buffer` allocation required by `fs.readFileSync(path).toString()`. This is a micro-optimization that reduces memory allocations. Co-authored-by: vishnu-madhavan-git <237662584+vishnu-madhavan-git@users.noreply.github.com>

💡 What: The optimization implemented was to replace instances of
fs.readFileSync(path).toString()withfs.readFileSync(path, 'utf8').🎯 Why: Calling
.toString()on aBuffercreates an intermediate memory allocation for theBufferobject before converting it to a string. Passing the'utf8'encoding directly toreadFileSyncreads the file natively into a string, bypassing theBufferallocation, thus making it slightly more memory-efficient.📊 Impact: Expected performance improvement is a slight reduction in memory allocations, which may be noticeable when running CLI tasks that do heavy I/O operations (like generating templates or modifying gitignores).
🔬 Measurement: Verify this by observing the memory usage profile of
pod-installor the Expo CLI plugin generator before and after the change; although it is a micro-optimization and the impact might be difficult to profile in standard benchmarks, it is a known Node.js memory optimization.PR created automatically by Jules for task 13249925282971377325 started by @vishnu-madhavan-git
